Uranium oxide particles in the air will impart a very slight green tint, sand & glass etc under and around any impact area could be turned green - indeed literally anything could be slightly tinted toward the green by exposure to uranium. HOWEVER you would see some green colouring effects around you. Now radioactivity is colourless, so some folk argue you can't "see" it, let alone see it as green. Thus green glows became long associated with vsiually depicting radiation and would certainly be "lore" to retro-1950s Americana as in Fallout. Trinitite, the glassy material formed under the first nuclear bomb test is - guess what colour? - Yep also green.
Radium and radioluminescence (such as in watches up until recently, is a blueish green & glows green too. Glass and many items are turned green by uranium, hence it use as a great colouring agent. 'Green radiation' is just a way to make comics and movie radiation visible to the reader, it makes so much more sense to get rid of the green-ness ^ It affects literally nothing on the gameplay and lore/story, it just makes. (Nuclear)Radiation doesn't alter the colour of things, it just breaks bonds in your DNA and causes cancer or if the wave is stronger energy-wise, it causes more immediate problems, therefore it's actually more Lore-Friendly than the green tint that the game originally had. you know that radiation isn't green right? Nuclear waste radiation and all the waves emitted during nuclear reactions and explosions (Gamma rays, Alpha particles, and tons more) have a wavelength far smaller than the visible spectrum.
Yes, I'm in the same page with you on the Lore-Friendly part, I personally NEVER use different bodies, extra equipment, blahblah anything immersion breaking or different from the OG Fallout 3 experience (I only use higher resolution texture mods and Fellout) but.
